Annual Day-of-Giving
Each December, HSA hosts our annual Day-of-Giving in partnership with Society Hill Synagogue and Old Pine Community Center. During this special event, Vare-Washington students and families receive gift cards, groceries, winter coats, warm accessories, and other essential items to help make the season brighter.
FREE Monthly Grocery Pick-Up
On the first Wednesday of each month, Vare-Washington Families are welcome to pick up a bag of FREE groceries from the schoolyard at dismissal. First come, first serve, FREE 🥰. Organized by HSA, Old Pine Community Center, and Society Hill Synagogue.
Field Day
Field Day at Vare-Washington is a fun, school-wide celebration of teamwork, school spirit, and outdoor activity! Elementary and middle school students enjoy games, relays, and friendly competitions that encourage movement, camaraderie, and lots of laughter.
Pride Fest
Pride Fest at Vare-Washington is a celebration of diversity, acceptance, and community! Students in elementary and middle school come together to learn about respect, kindness, and inclusion through fun activities and games that honor LGBTQ+ pride and foster a welcoming environment for everyone.
Movie Nights
One of our favorite HSA events of the year! Movie Night is for Vare-Washington families only. Admission is free, and refreshments are available for purchase.
Boo Grams
Each October, students can let somebody know that they’re unBOOleivable with a BOO Gram! This is a fun event for students, and a fundraiser for HSA.
Cupid Grams
Students can spread some love and joy on Valentine’s Day with Vare-Washington’s Cupid Grams! For just $1, students can send a sweet note along with a candy treat or small toy to a friend, family member, or staff member. It’s a fun and easy way to share kindness and celebrate the season of love. Cupid Grams are an HSA fundraiser.
Annual Lil’ Shopper’s Holiday Shoppe
The annual Lil’ Shopper’s Holiday Shoppe is a festive event where children can shop for holiday gifts for family and friends. Kids explore a variety of small, affordable gifts, practice making thoughtful choices, and enjoy a fun, holiday-themed shopping experience in a safe and cheerful environment.
STUFF-raiser Winter Supply Drive
HSA helps to stock the school with STUFF to minimize the spread of germs during the cold and flu season! The classroom that brings in the most STUFF will win a snack party! 🧻🚫🦠
Helpful Workshops
HSA sponsors local workshops for Vare-Washington families, including this engaging session in collaboration with YES! During the workshop, families explored best practices for fostering a consent culture at home and practiced recognizing and using teachable moments. We also discussed plans for a YES!/Vare-Washington partnership to support sexuality education for students.
Appreciation Days
In collaboration with the Friends of Vare-Washington (FOVW), HSA shows our teachers and staff just how much they mean to us by celebrating them throughout the year!
Celebrating YOU! Top Tiger Program
Each month, HSA will recognize one Vare-Washington teacher or staff member who goes above and beyond for our school community. Students, parents/caregivers, administrators, and staff can all submit nominations. Each Top Tiger will be celebrated with a $25 gift card in appreciation of their outstanding contributions! FREE Bookshops through Vare-Washington’s Volunteer-Run Library
Through a Books in Homes grant awarded to Vare-Washington’s volunteer library team, the Vare-Washington Library is able to bring 4 FREE bookshops to Vare-Washington students each year. During each bookshop, students can select 2 books to add to their at-home collection.
